How can such a high cost be justified for these sound microphones?

Which one is better?

I don't have much of a budget but I want something better or rather more suited than the AT-3035 which I use for vocals. I hear good things about the SM-57 (my budget is about the cost of one, or $100) but not sure if that extends to Micing an acoustic guitar. I'd like to blend my pickup with it to get a nice mix of a sound.

sorry for another one of these what to buy threads. I'm currently looking to spend about 300$ on a mic, used mainly for vocals, but additionally versatility is obviously a plus. Right now I'm running on a MXL v63m (100$ at the time, i think they're like 60$ now).

It looks like a new valve preamp that uses a proper valve circuit and not the gimmick valve thing! It also costs around £75! Looks very interesting and might try this one out?

I'm new here and have taken my time to read many posts before asking my question.
I have done plenty of live sound over the years, but don't know much about recording. I'm wanting to record myself and some friends - mostly acoustic / folk-rock / celtic, but one guy likes to do electronic and I figure he'll be in the "studio" (if it ever earns that name) at some point.

Alright, for those of you who may already know me I kind of got off to a bad start on here, but uh, I need some advice...so...I don't know, don't like me then don't post.

Now that I've actually used and heard some of the mics I've been looking at, well, I'm open to more suggestions. Alot more.

I'm looking for recommendations on condenser mics to record mostly solo, roots music in a home studio. I'll be recording some very nice vintage acoustic guitars, and occasionally open-back banjo, mandolin, lap dulcimer, fiddle, etc. I also want to record my voice (fairly strong and resonant baritone).

I went into my attic and pulled out a couple of my first mic purchases and I was wondering what my recording Guru's Think of the possibilities> I was also wondering...(I Feel so retarded for asking this)What the hell does the word pad mean on my mixing board and in these microphone reviews I keep reading?
