we are in the process of negotiating a record contract with an independent record label, and i had a question. we are looking for an entertainment lawyer, and I'm not sure how much i should be looking to spend. does anyone know what a typical rate for a lawyer in this field should cost, and if you give an hourly rate, how much time can we expect him to bill us for.

It's still in the "let's get together and talk about it" stage, but I figure that I should be as informed as I can be.

So far I've only been recording friends but I would like to start recording local bands...most of whom I don't know. I think it would be a good idea to get some sort of legal contract that would require the clients to pay in a certain amount of time for any equipment damaged, broken, or stolen.

A guy is about to mix and master my CD and I want a contract to make sure everything goes smoothly. Does anyone have any mixing and mastering contracts?

Does anyone have guest musician contracts to allow a musician to play for a fee and receive no rights or royalties to the work?

Does anyone know if there is any standard contract langauge online for a "spec" recording deal? (I know enough to get a lawyer to look at the final version, I just want a starting point.) I'm discussing a potential project with a very good R&B band made up of older musicians (all over 60) who have been playing this type of music for 40 or more years.
