Pentode Triode sound explained?
Could someone attempt to describe what Pentode / Triode sound like? I believe the Crane Song HEDD unit actually has these as controls. If you can, please explain WHY they sound like they do as well. (And for love of god try not to be ambiguous and say something like "it sounds analog")

Crane Song Hedd or Apogee PSX-100 ?
Decisions, Decisions. Which one to buy as an outboard AD converter for location recording on a 24 bit DAT recorder?
Pros and Cons: (As I see it)
Apogee Pros
Transparent. 120dB Dynamic range. Has limiter. 1U rack mount.
Apogee Cons
Can't use both AD & DA connected on DA-45HR.

HEDD users - what clock?
Calling all you HEDDites who are using the HEDD as your primary converter!
I'm trying to settle on a word clock topology and am wondering how you guys are making it work.
1. HEDD as clock master (using a word clock DA to distribute the HEDD clock round the studio)

CRane Song Flamingo or HEDD?
Does anyone here have any experience with CRane Song's equipment, particularly the Flamingo and HEDD 192? I can't find a soul in the great ::cough:: state of New Hampshire that has a unit to try out. Anyone know how they compare to GML, Avalon, etc.? Thanks!

More HEDD! (sorry - couldn't resist)
Just thought I'd jump on the HEDD bandwagon. After hearing Julian sing it's praises for the past few months, I found an original version for cheap on E-bay (no Tape knob, just Triode and Pentode).

HEDD. Jules?
Jules,
Now that you track everything with your FATSO, adding lots of "warmth", would you still invest in a HEDD for your mix bus...if you didn't already have one?
And what exactly does the HEDD add at this point that the FATSO hasn't already given you?

CRane Song HEDD - Original version?
I'd love to own a HEDD, a FATSO, the OXFORD EQ & COMP plugins etc. that everyone is saying are all essential for those of us working in the digital domain. Of course, all that presupposes the mucho bucks that exist only in my fantasies. BUT... I did notice a used original vintage HEDD on sale recently for less than half the price of a new one.

CRane Song HEDD
I'm looking a getting a new A/D converter as a front end for my Yamaha Aw4416
choices so far are used CRane Song Hedd (not the 192) or Lucid 2496
I guess the Crane Song would be "better" and i guess open up some more options but i've never seen one.Its also 3x the price of the lucid.
Anyone use one? Can they be upgraded to other sample rates(96hz or up)?

A big-HEDDed FATSO
So if I've got a HEDD, do I need a FATSO?
I recently picked up a HEDD, and while I really like it for certain types of things, it seems like it's pretty easy to go overboard with the effect. The "triode" distortion, in particular, doesn't sound very musical to me... it kinda reminds me of the crappy DRG "radiance generator" function on my old Finalizer, which I didn't like either.

HEDD applications
Hola amigos,
Have had a Crane Song HEDD 192 in my room for awhile now, and despite glowing recommendations from lots of my engineer pals, I'm not sure if I like the damn thing. Was hoping to hear more about specific usage of this box from any HEDD fans out there. Maybe I'm doing it wrong...
