PreSonus Firestudio vs. Audiobox 22VSL - recording quality?

Hi

I own an old Firestudio 26x26 (not project) and a newer USB Audiobox 22VSL, both from PreSonus. I wonder which has better recording quality for mics. The Firestudio has 8 inputs but it's big and heavy and requires an additional power supply. The Audiobox was much cheaper but then again it's much newer. Does anyone have experience with those two and can say if one produces superior audio quality when recording? If they are similar, I would probably just use the Audiobox because it's more convenient to use.

Thanks!

PreSonus Firestudio 2626 asymmetrical clipping distortion positive side -6dbfs, bad units on Ebay

I wanted to find out if anyone has had a simiar problem with PreSonus Firestudio 2626 asymmetrical clipping distortion issues. The positive side only of recorded waveforms clip at -6dbfs on some channels as can be seen and verified in my DAW(Sonar). I have two of these Firestudio 2626 units and one unit has the problem on every analog input channel and my second only has it on only one channel. It appears to be in the A/D conversion for the analog channels because the insert and aux analog outs do not have the asymmetrical ciipping as verified on oscilloscope.

Very odd to have this exist on both of my units. Both were bought second hand. I have checked other forums and cannot find postings on this problem. Seems that if two different units exibit same issue it's probably a more widespread problem. I would go so far as to warn others from buying these on Ebay as that seems to be the place people dump equipment with hard to find defects.
Pretty sure this is going to necessitate another expensive PreSonus repair

PreSonus Audiobox USB vs. Firestudio Mobile? AND USB vs. Firewire for Recording?

Hey guys. I got myself a Firestudio Mobile a couple of years ago but now I'm set to upgrade my computer to something which won't have inputs for Firewire or even the Express card I've been using on my current computer for recording. It will have USB 3.0 inputs. I'm kind of steamed at having to replace my soon to be useless Firestudio Mobile with the basically equivalent Audiobox USB, but it is what it is. It seems to be that Firewire as a medium is getting phased out due to lack of support/interest.

So my question is an overall, is there a huge difference between the performance with firewire versus USB in recording (and with Audiobox USB and Firestudio Mobile, respectively)? I used to hear people say that data was able to flow without being inhibited with Firewire whereas you'd have more pops and data burps on your tracks with USB. Any truth to this?

Thanks for the help.

PreSonus Firestudio Project - Needs power supply schematic

Asking on behalf of a fellow member on another electronics repair forum. He seems to have a bad a resistor that is some type of 1/4 resistor that is right beside the bridge rectifier. Obviously, these new types of schematics are tough to come by... However, the year of the device is 2007 and all that is really needed is the value of this resistor. Just checking as I am curious if anyone has come across any schematics like this one in particular. thanks. thumb

PreSonus Firestudio Troubleshooting

I have 2 Firestudio Projects hooked up to Behrskhg98y4winger powered speakers. Recently, the overall volume has significally decreased in the left channel. I am ruling out the monitors, because it affects the headphone outputs too. I messed around in the Universal Control settings, Windows Settings, Sonar settings, and ASIO settings.

Not sure where to turn to next.

Thank you for any help!

Universal Audio LA610 + Firestudio Tube vs. Universal Audio Apollo

I have about $2,000 to spend on my interface / preamp, just unsure on what would be more beneficial... a [="http://www.uaudio.com UA[/]="http://www.uaudio.c… UA[/] [LA610[/]="http://www.uaudio.c…"]LA610[/] Preamp / Compressor combo with a lower end interface (Firestudio Tube) or the new UA [="http://www.uaudio.com/apollo?utm_source=recording&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=apollo"]Apollo[/]="http://www.uaudio.c…"]Apollo[/] interface (which seems to have pretty good preamps anyways)?

In previous studios, I absolutely loved the sound we got from the UA LA610 preamp compressor combo, but we were also working with an [="http://www.apogeedi… Apogee[/] ensemble interface and nice gear all around. This time I only have about $2000 to work with, so I can't really have both here. The http://www.PreSonus… PreSonus[/]="http://www.PreSonus… PreSonus[/] tube would be my low end choice. And I was also looking at the Echo Audiofire pre8. The new UA Apollo interface looks really sick, but I'm unsure.

I'm more interested in the preamp from the LA610 than the compressor (that's just a really good bonus!). With the exception of drums, I should only be recording one channel at a time (max 2).

What do you guys suggest?

Thanks in advance (I really do appreciate your help)

Saffire Pro 24/24DSP or Firestudio Mobile?

Hey guys, brand new to the forum. Just wanted to know what your opinions are on the Saffire Pro 24/24DSP and the Firestudio Mobile. Trying to decide which one to buy, but I just can't make the decision on my own. I haven't really heard bad things about either, except for some driver issues with the Firestudio, and a firewire incompatibility issue with the Saffire Pro 24 and the newest iMac firewire ports. I know that both have great preamps , but from what I've read, most people prefer the Saffire's pre's over the Firestudio. How about some help?

Thanks!

S/PDIF connection help between PreSonus FireStudio Project and Seasound Soloist

Can these two pieces of gear place nice together?

The problem I see is that there is no external digital audio connections for the Seasound. Is there a way they can be clocked together through software?

Do I even need to worry about clocking them together if they both are hooked up through PCI slots? What if one was PCI, and the other was PCI-E?

Is there anything else I should know or be concerned about?

Thanks!

Computer for PreSonus FireStudio

I am looking to get a computer to run my PreSonus Firestudio. I am low on cash, so I was looking to get a Dell.

Any quick thoughts on whether a basic Dell could handle the FireStudio. Also, any recommendations on the PCI FireWire card?

Here the specs of the dell I am looking at:

Proc: Intel® Core™ i3-550 processor(4MB Cache, 3.20GHz)
OS: Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
RAM: 4GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz- 4 DIMMs
HD: 500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

I can also get another hard drive or two.

Is there anything else I should be considering?

x
