EQing the top-end of the frequency spectrum
Forums
When checking commercial songs (in 44.1 kHz) with a spectrum analyser, I often see a sharp roll off in frequencies at around 20 kHz or so. Why exactly is this done? In order to make the fact that the frequencies are abrubtly cut off at 22050 Hz inaudible? So is this something I should be reproducing by using a low-pass filter with a sharp Q (I'm using 20504 Hz, Q of 5.79)?

"Mud" Frequency Area
Forums
Hi,
I was wondering how you guys eq the "mud" area from 200 Hz to about 500 Hz ? Like give the basskick a cut around 400 Hz, and boost the bassguitar there, or cut bassguitar around 100 Hz and boost the basskick there for example.
So which space do you give your instruments in that "trouble" area ?
Thank you in advance.

Frequency Panning?
Forums
How do the pros get that perfect master with what seems like an emphasis on deep bass + highs on the left and mid bass + mids on the right? And I know this is a mastering forum but does anyone have any advanced panning techniques especially regarding different frequencies and effects
Thanks,
Ryan Chamberlain

Frequency-specific monitor amp problem?
Forums
I'd noticed a slight unevenness in my monitors, just a general sense that the center image had drifted a little to the left. My little radioshack spl meter confirmed that the left monitor was producing a little more volume, maybe 3db, particularly with test tones around 200hz.

Visual display of Frequency Ranges ?
Forums
Thanks in advance for any help or insights on this topic: Although I do keep a list of the frequency ranges of many instruments in order to perform EQ carving on mixes, there are many other instruments (such as synthesizers) which I have no idea what the frequency range is.

Frequency Shift vs Level
Forums
Has anybody ever encountered a change in the pitch of the instruments as a track was fading out? On a few ocasions I thought I heard a pitch change as the music got softer, especially with headphones. I think I have heard it during live performances also. Am I hearing things?

frequency analysis?
Forums
Since I learned that every instrument has its fundamental and harmonic place in the frequency spectrum my mixes are much CLEANER and each sound has its own little spot that it sits. The end result? I can hear everything no matter which system I playback on.
