What is a really good way to layout vocals?

Example: lead vocal in mono and record backups in stereo.
record two mono and then pan left and right
or use plugins that move your vocals all over the place to give that surround sound feel.

Basically any tips or tricks?

Hi, I have an AKG C414 and I was considering selling it to buy a Neumann U87. I record Hip Hop and Mostly RnB and I use my Mics with an Avalon 737 sp.
1. would you recommend the U87 for RnB vocals or is there a better mic for this purpose in the same price range.

Yo. Do any of you know how to get that tight sound like Destiny's Child or Justin Timberlake? I'm working on some rap tracks that I want to sound tight and clean. Also something like Xtina's "Dirrty" or Toni Braxton's "Wasn't Man Enough For Me".

Dose anyone have any good advise on what equiptment to buy to make good high quality hip hop beats price is not a concern.?

i mainy produce r&b and hip hop .. i track most of my stuff now with a u87ai and or cad m9 through a valley audio 401 or Aphex 207. sounds good but it need great.
i'm looking at getting the Focusrite isa430MkII or the A-designs mp1 with a nice comp(distressor)

Any discussions on a Hip Hop session out there?

Including laying down the initial tracks - beat machines, sampling, getting the sounds, etc.
