hi guys, could it still make sense in 2018, mix with an old but good Mackie 32/8? could I reach the same audio quality as an inbox mix? the idea is to use the daw for compression / effects and the mixer for the sum of the signals and the equalizer. thank you

I think this is a pretty straightforward question.
I can understand that you would want to track a sweet sounding outboard compressor on a vocal or acoustic guitar, or get a more focused sound with an outboard EQ coming in.
The thing is, would you do this with plugins?
A thought struck me the other day. (i had to treat it kindley as it was in a strange place).
What do you think of the changes between ITB and OTB, and the demonstration?
Do you think this is a the best way to allow us to hear an A/B ?

i pretty much get what's good about itb, . but what are the drawbacks of passive summing networks ... ? why is passive summing not a good thing?
I know a lot of you guys love mixing hybrid. I don't have the privilege of decent outboard gear. :(
But if you had to be stuck ITB for either delays or reverbs, which would you choose?

I have just joined here after reading about the forum in the 'Home Studio Recording' book by Rod Gervais (which has been a huge help to my new studio build)
The automation on the SSL looks pretty dated to me but I understand the love of a big desk and access right in front of me. Classic example of we get used to what we are familiar with and sometimes even blind to other technology. He lost me on the recall. Most DAW's and a hybrid rig, for the most part will kick this gem out of the arena. Yes, no, maybe so?
