what's better or more beneficial. or if you wanna answer negatively. what's worse...

1. a great mic with just an ok mic preamp/channel strip?
2. a great mic preamp/channel strip with just an ok mic?

i'm sure some will say that it's relative and depends on which pieces of equipment you're working with, but i'm just looking for a general/"in most cases" answer.

Anyone use the digital beyer mics? I am considering buying one...

OK, I'm going to be shooting in a warehouse type location and I get a lot of echo. I'm going to use some blankets to fix some of the echo I have been getting. I have been using a shotgun (Cheap) mic but the sound has been really bad. My subjects cannot use lav mics because they are training martial arts.

I was at the AT website, and they were talking about how their mics were built to not degrade, and would sound the same down the road.

Is this BS, or is a cheap mic likely to change sound over time?

Have any of you ever pulled the mic out of the closet, fired it up, and then compared the tracks to ones you did 10 years ago and noticed a big difference?

Hiyall...Tomorrow, the SpitBoys start basic tracking for the new record, "Wudge Ya Expect?"..We're going to be looking at several mics in the next month as we put down the guide vocals.This time instead of the 58 in the guest bath, we're going to be searching out sounds as well as mic performance. First up will be the ADK Area51 TT.

i'd be Micing each drum individually so they will just be for cymbals. is it worth getting a 2 channel compressor? i'll probably use an ART DMPA for a preamp.
