They seem to be held in such high regard as kick-ass, but are they really that cool? I have a couple pre's that I think are pretty good:GR MP2NV, X73i, UA 2-610. Would a Neve 1073 just blow them out of the water, or could I hear it and go, "Eh, a little cooler" but not go berserk or anything?
i have a jackson and it seems that when i put the cord in. it is very sensitive like a slight tap would make a cracke noise what should i do
This is probably a long shot, but has anyone considered trying to setup a group buy for API or Neve preamps?
I was thinking we could go in for some 3124's, API Lunchboxes with the cards, Seventh Circle Audio clones, or some Neve clones.
All I hear about is how great this preamp was. I could never afford a real one, so I would like to know of a current manufacturer (and model) that makes a great clone. Thanks all.

Has anyone had a chance to listen to the new Portico yet? Thinking of trying it out. Portico 5012. How does it compare to API or Seb or the likes in the same price range? It's going for $1440. How about any mag reviews I can check out. I've only read one on gearslutz comparing it to the langevin, but i'm looking for me.

I saw this subject line as the title for a thread on a KVR forum and it really struck a chord with me! It quickly became a thread afire that many forum readers could relate to. It was great finding out I wasn't the only one!

I rented a pair of Neve 1084's this weekend, and am very impressed with the sound of the preamps. I left the EQ's off, with all buttons out. These preamps sound very balanced and full, and multiple tracks mix easily. Almost magical. Closer to sounding like an album than ever.
It's been in development for at least a couple of years and it is now here. The $1500 dual channel official Neve mic preamp.
My only weak link left in my studio is my DDA-console which is not bad but not compareable to high-end consoles either. The rest of my gear is up there. I use my studio only for my own productions and I've made the recording chain a priority 'coz i mix in larger facilities.
