Okay, I apologize in advance for what is likely to be a very long-winded post and one that will likely spark people to reply. Recently, one of my engineers brought a project to me that was so riddled with phasing issues, it was virtually unlistenable.

Stupid Question? How do you get speakers out of phase? I it pos>neg and neg>pos? i have never really understood this concept? Please explain

I am a very inexperienced rookie when it comes to recording and I don't quite get the concept of phase cancellation. Could someone give me a rough explanation? thanks.

Its been a while since I've posted any stupid questions. have been busy recording some live shows for a friend over the last 5 months.

the question i'm posing relates to the recordings. so i feel its best to explain the setup first:

So i was recording a demo for this band the other day and had an old RCA ribbon on a guitar amp. The guitar player had the habit of dancing around when he took a solo and when he start shaking his fat ass in front of the amp it produced this wicked phasing, apparently because of the reflections off his booty shakin'. It was truly strange.
