Anyone care to comment on Pros vs cons on the EL- FATSO vs lets say 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch tape for mixdown ?

I'm new at these place!

Im very curiouse about all this analog stuff I keep reading. I read in an article that a lot of short budget pro's are tracking to digital and then mixdown to an analog reel 2 reel and then back into the DAW to add more warmth, punch and depth to the music.

I want to go straight from my tape machine to my digital interfaces. The probelm is I hit tape really hard and when I go straight to the intrfaces they clip. I'm trying to avoid going through the preamps again. There is no gain reducer on my interfaces so I have to do it before it hits them. Any sugestions?

Im new to this analog reel-to-reel stuff. I found out that machines use different type of tape sizes. Why is this ? higher fidelity ? More tracks ? Thanks for the help.

I keep reading them on many posts here, and I recently read it ain a Recording magazine article where it said "We recorded the drums into a 2 inch tape and then passed them on into the DAW"

Could someone enlighten me on the uses for these mode switches on the master section of a Trident TSM console?: Mix/Tape/Overdub

These switches concern the monitor part of the board but it seems they also affect how signals get sent to tape.

Hey guys, I just got an old Tascam ATR-60 tape machine. I'd like to get it run over head to toe by a professional before I start putting it to use. Anyone know of a good, professional tape machine repair guy in the DC/Baltimore/Philly/NYC area? I'll drive far to find a guy with a good reputation...
