Description
The letters TRS stand for Tip, Ring, and Sleeve, and refer to the parts of the jack plug that the different conductors are connected to. A TRS cable has three conductors vs the two on a standard guitar cable. A guitar cable is a TS, or Tip Sleeve cable.

TRS

Tip, Ring, and Sleeve. A type of 1/4" phone plug that looks like the plug found on stereo headphones. Used in a variety of applications, namely as a balance connector, where the tip and ring both carry the signal, as a send/return connector from an insert of a mixer, and for providing unbalanced stereo connectivity, as in headphones.

19" XLR or TRS analog patchbay for MixDream 25 pin send/return

I'm looking for a 25 pin to 25 pin patchbay that connects the 1 to 8 and 9 to 16 analog send and returns of the MixDream.
I want it have the options to patch my analog gear to either XLR or TRS for each channel. This way it saves me from buying double snakes or extra adapters. What are some really good options?

Here is an image of the rear panel of the MixDream.

How to pick the right XLR, TS and TRS jacks?

I am going to be wiring an in wall snake system pretty soon for a small sized freestanding home studio. Since I live in a fairly populated city neighborhood I've been planning, plus have had recommendations to do so, on running Mogami Neglex Quad cable through grounded conduit with metal boxes to a metal face plate. That's the easy part...

1/4" Cables TS vs. TRS, Using Mixer Inserts as Outs

I have a M-16DX digital mixer/interface I want to record with. It has 16 balanced line ins (4 with mic preamps).
I plan to buy a Nady PRA-8 to add some more mic preamps, and an 8-pack of short 1/4" cables. I hear it does have balanced outs, but the distances are short anyway. Should I go TS or TRS 1/4" cables? I want to maximize flexibility of things I can connect with them.

TRS out of mic preamp into mixer = bypass mixer pre?

i do all my tracking with a Mackie onyx mixer w/firewire

if i buy a separate preamp (isa one, trident, whatever) then i obviously want to bypass the onyx pre. if i run the 1/4" output of a preamp into the 1/4" input of the onyx mixer, then i'm bypassing the onyx's preamp, is that correct?

just making sure my ducks are in a row before i go out and buy lots more gear

1 of the 2 MBOX TRS outputs is weaker all of a sudden?

i have a simple pro tools 6.9 / mbox / powerbook g4 rig with powered krk speakers. randomly today i noticed the right channel was significantly softer than usual. i got a signal, just super soft. one of my TRS outputs (line output 2) was like 70% weaker than my other output. it's not the speakers or the cords, because i tested them all through line output 1 and it worked fine.

TRS wiring

hey guys, I'm trying to get my headphone amp from one room to another (vocal booth). ive got a TRS female socket and in the forum search regarding this subject people were talking about the socket having 3 pins at the back BUT mine has 5 pins. They are numbered 2, 3, 5, 8, sc.
