Anybody ever use a Countryman Type 85 to record a tube amp direct?
I am curious if anyone has done this with success. I have read the manual that comes with it and it states that you can plug the speaker tap from a tube amp directly into the amp input and put the switch to "speaker" mode and it will safely record amps up to 1700w and it doesn't matter what ohm tap you use from the output transformer's secondary.
Outdoors with a tube amp
I play a regular outdoor gig throughout the Summer here in the UK which has my trio set up under a band stand with open sides but overhead cover. I have recently purchased a tube amp and it got me thinking if outside playing can damage a tube amp. The gigs are May - September and many of them are in the evening finishing at 10pm.

Tube Amp Practices
I haven't used my amp in months or even years because I've been away at college. Now that I am home I am using it to record. It's a Marshall AVT 50, and has one 12AX7 tube in the preamp section.

Using a tube amp w/o a cab... I need a Cab sim/DI
So I'm selling my Ampeg 8x10 because I no longer do gigs at the moment, and I can probably repurchase an Avatar 1x15 or 2x12 if I ever wanted to start up a band again... (plus I need the money!)
But I am never selling my SVT2-Pro. NEVER!
I want to use it to record (well, I have before but if I sell my cab...well, you see the problem).
HELP! Recording with a tube amp
hey, so basically i've heard a bunch of different ways for recording with a tube amp. I've heard the best way is just to mic it, but then I heard that you can run the speaker output into an interface and digitally record, but then i heard that will blow a transformer. So can someone please tell me if there is any way to record with a tube amp without Micing it? thanks

best tube amp for recording metal?
i record melodic death metal and i need a good amp. kinda similar to in flames colony-clayman era (and somewhat their newest album), i think they use a peavey but I'm unsure of the model? like what sounds really clean, high gain, but not a dead mess of fuzz? (please dont say marshall..)

Tube Amp Sound - Mountain Lion Growling Through Glass Packs
Hello All,
I am looking for a new tube amp in the $500 range and I would love to hear about your experience with different amps. I am looking the "the sound". For me, that sound is as the title describes. Throaty growling tube overdrive. The problem? Low budget.
back again with the old tube amp!
Ok. I've posted about this before, but haven't done anything yet, other than buy this old tube amp. The unit was pulled from a Zenith mono record player cabinet (circa 1956!). The guy I got it from re-capped it, replaced the weak tubes, and converted the ins and outs to 1/4" jacks. The amp is 15 watts.

tube amp/preamp books
Can anyone recommend a few good titles on the subject of tube amp and preamp designs? I've found a few websites, but they only scratch the surface of course, although I have picked up a few leads on books from some of them. Thanks!
