Anybody ever use a Countryman Type 85 to record a tube amp direct?

I am curious if anyone has done this with success. I have read the manual that comes with it and it states that you can plug the speaker tap from a tube amp directly into the amp input and put the switch to "speaker" mode and it will safely record amps up to 1700w and it doesn't matter what ohm tap you use from the output transformer's secondary.

Using a tube amp w/o a cab... I need a Cab sim/DI

So I'm selling my Ampeg 8x10 because I no longer do gigs at the moment, and I can probably repurchase an Avatar 1x15 or 2x12 if I ever wanted to start up a band again... (plus I need the money!)

But I am never selling my SVT2-Pro. NEVER!

I want to use it to record (well, I have before but if I sell my cab...well, you see the problem).

HELP! Recording with a tube amp

hey, so basically i've heard a bunch of different ways for recording with a tube amp. I've heard the best way is just to mic it, but then I heard that you can run the speaker output into an interface and digitally record, but then i heard that will blow a transformer. So can someone please tell me if there is any way to record with a tube amp without Micing it? thanks
