I know the main diff on these is the EQ section. Do you guys think the X73 and specifically the X81 warrant the extra dough? Or could I get by with the X73i? Would I feel like Im missing something with the X73i and wish I had gotten the X81?

Would I use all the extra Q points and such to warrant the extra cost?

Hey guys still narrowing the gap on what gear to get. I was advised by a salesman that the best all around pre for rock/ pop rock and alt country in his opinon was the Vintech X73i. A Neve 1073 clone with EQ. I was also looking at the Vintech X73 (not X73i) and Great River Pre (no EQ)(he said the GR was darker). Also was advised to get the AEA ribbon mic instead of the Royer R-121 .

Okay, so Vintech claims that the X73 and the X73i are sonically the same but with a $400 difference in pricetags is that possible?

Has anybody ever heard them side by side?

I need to make a choice. I can only afford one of these.

Any thoughts on which unit will hold its value the longest?

Do any of you pro in here own or have opinion about these pre? I am about to buy either one but need a little more help in seeing which one I should get. I rented a Neve 1073 and love the sound but can't find one, more like, can't afford one. so I have to settle for either of these.
