Critique a VO test...
Here's a test recording...Guy wants to pursue jobs in VO. What do you think of the talent, as well as the recording? This was recorded with a Sennheser MD421 through an M-Audio DMP3 preamp, and ART Pro VLA compressor, into an M-Audio Delta 44 card. Please let me know, what is good about this, what needs improvement.

1950s and 1960s Voice-overs
I'd love to capture that 1950s/60s Voice-over sound you hear on all the old short films. You know...the old documentaries, or instructional videos. Plenty on archive.org to sift through. They always begin with the heavy orchestra, then comes Mr. Voiceover.
It's a very distinct sound, other than just the vocal styling itself. Does anyone happen to know how to recreate such a thing?

John Hardy, Grace, AKG 414 BULS – Voice-over advice
I'm new to this forum; have been reading posts for some time and found it very educational. I have a question, especially to those who have some experience recording voice-overs.
voice over demo, career pointers
I have a good friend who is interested in starting a career doing voice-overs and possibly audio books. Can anyone recommend a few good books on the topic of getting started in this field, as well as any real-life experience about this? Thanks! ANDY

Using (and ordering) effects for VO production
I just registered here, and I'm looking forward to learning a lot: this looks like a great resource! Thanks to all of the pros here who help out those of us just starting out down the audio engineering path.
Voice-over mic recommendations
I'm thinking of getting an Audio-Technica AT4040 for voice-over recording (primarily male voices).
Is there anything of comparable quality at a lower price? I need to save wherever I can but make as few compromises as possible when it comes to quality.

Interface for Voice-overs
Guys, I'd like to upgrade my interface. I currently have a M-Audio MobilePre USB and it's ok, but I'd really like to bump up the quality.
I'd love to say I had the money for something extravagant, but alas, I do not.

Voice-over channelstrip
I've been hired to do an ongoing project. It's location recording of storyrtelling for a series of videos. I record them telling their tragic life stories, then a slideshow-like video is added later. I've done a couple already using my mbox and an NT2A, and while it has worked fine, Id really like an inline compressor, and a better pre wouldn't hurt.

Opinions on VO demos
OK, fellas...I finally have broken down and threw together some demos to illustrate my voice-over range. I made three separate demos:
1) Character Demo - Cartoon, Video Game characters

voice-over career help please
After being told I should persue this for years I am finally going after it. I want to explore voice-over work. I have done some reseach on the net and find all kinds of workshops but don't really know what I am looking at. Does anyone have any experience here and could you offer some advice about how to not get totally ripped off and learn a little about this subject in the process.
