The Avalon 747 -VS- Avalon AD2044 - opinions welcome!

I am looking to beef up my Optical Compressor investments. I am currently looking at a either a Avalon 747 or a Avalon AD2044. I already know there are some obvious differences i.e. The 747 has a Graphic EQ in the chain, the 747 has a side chain option, the 747 only allows for linked operation (the two channels cannot be operated seperately). Many of their specs seem similar.

Need an external DA converter? Suggestions welcome!

Hi everybody, I'm new on this forum.
I just have a little question:
My mixer's analog outputs (Yamaha DM1000) are connected to a pair of Mackie monitors.
Considering the quality of DM 1000 built in converters (which shouldn't be bad), how much I would benefit if I buy an external dac, like the Benchmark DAC1 or Apogee Rosetta 200 for monitoring?

Suggestions Welcome (Small Home Studio)

Recently I have decided to make an attempt at coming up with enough equipment to run a small home studio. As of now I am on a fairly tight budget. I currently have several mics and all the computer/I/O hardware that I need. As for mics I have several sm57s, a d112, a pair of AKGC1000s and a Blue Dragonfly. I need suggestions on what I should do for preamps .

My first music mix. Comments welcomed...

I recently got finished mixing and mastering 6 new songs for my brothers band, "Dear Vanity". Previously, I'd only done sound editing for video projects and some simple mastering, so being able to finally be in charge of mixing an album from scratch was a real treat. Even though they couldn't pay me, I still agreed to do it just for the experience.
