Hello group, my name is Ken Basman. I am using Cubase 4.1/24 on a 400mhz G3, with a MOTU 1224 interface...that said, I was wondering what solutions/workarounds people have for the problem that audio when snipped in the arrange window will occasionally move...disabling snap to zero helps somewhat, but only somewhat...OK 'nuff said...any takers?
Ken

On a similar note, have either of you had experience with some sort of time-stretching when you're recording a track? Like, all of a sudden a couple beats disappear, directly after recording the track? Odd little thing, I was recording some chimes from a tape, and after recording the track, I played it back...and noticed that about halfway through the song, the chimes started playing on the 2/4 beats rather than tha 1/3. Source tape was fine, and after simply cutting out the extra beat (during chimes' silence in the chorus), all the remaining chimes matched up fine. Using 4.1/24, I want to think it's happened to me once in 5.0/32, but I might be making that up.
Could making sure I have a large amount of defragmented disk space before recording prevent this?

Solfatio,
I have never experience such things as described but Cubase happen to skip tempo! Are you sure the tempo did not go up or down one step in these places? It happen to me more than once - all of a sudden the audio start acting funny. Don't turn your back on Cubase, it does odd things...

It's funny, basically what I was doing is transferring some 4-track demos to digital, and cleaning them up. On the cassette, the audio was fine, but..wham. =D It happened on two of the songs actually, once was a vocal track. The rest of the tracks in the song sounded fine, but then all of a sudden the vocals (or the chimes, depending on which song) came back in 1-2 beats off. Checked this against the original cassette, and the cassette was fine. And made me eat all my jokes about the singer/percussionist's "steady hands."
On another note, I have experience your problem when I used 4.1, but haven't come across it in 5.0 yet. I unfortunately can't remember if I found a workaround, or just learned to live with it. I imagine I just learned to live with it.
I don't turn my back on Cubase for a second anymore...

Ken, I had this happen for a bit until I found the answer. (BTW, I am using the PC version) If the MAC version is simliar at all try this:
In the Audio Editor window towards the top right there should be a number of different "tools" one of which, when selected moves the audio to the point of the deleted "snip". When this is deactivated this will stop happening. I'm not in front of my system so email me if you need some more detailed help.

As far as my experience with VST audio moves when cut only if the track was exported before at least once (ie. for auto tuning).
I have not found a way around this exept to do most cuts befor any export takes place and watch the screen closely for any unwanted change at the process. Sometimes the track moven by accident only because an operation error that can be undo.
