Anyone had a chance to hear this unit in advance or at any of the Trade shows?
What price point will this come in at?

Your comments?

dasbin,
Did you read the whole thread? From his first post in the thread, .....

"I have heard from a friend at West LA music that the Liquid Channels are incredible."

..... to the one you are referring to, Tetness's coments seemed to me to be biased in favor of the L.C ... maybe I mis read it ??? Did anyone else get that impression?

While I found the whole thread to be very interesting, I would hardly call his comments "a really good review and summary of the unit" ...

Focusrite started creating the buzz on the L.C. several months ago but it appears their still are no units in the hands of real world users.

The whole concept is interesting. But I would still reserve judgement on the subject until more info is available, more people weigh in and perhaps I have a chance to hear it myself. I think it's still to early to make a call on it ...

An interesting aside; most who seem to be enthusiastic in regards to the L.C also seem to be "hot" on the whole concept of modeling, be it amp, compressor or microphone based, while the ones who are skeptical seem to be devoted to the vintage and clone hardware approach.

BTW I think it's slated at somewhere around $3700 list ...

Well, I'm probably the most skeptical person you'll find when it comes to "modelling;" I hate any sort of mic modelling or guitar amp emulation (with the exception of the Fender and Marshall from simulanalog's plug-in suite). At the same time, my experience with convolution so far has been VERY positive. I think the technology is just amazing. I have yet to hear dynamic convolution, too, which can only be an even more accurate representation of what's going on. That combined with what seems to me to be a pretty solidly engineered (to my nonengineer brain, I admit) liquid front-end... the theory is there, anyway. I for one believe that Tetness is probably telling the truth. Perhaps he's a little biased; I certainly have yet to find anyone who isn't. That doesn't mean his review is false.

Obviously I'm not dumb enough to go out and buy this thing based soley on his opinion, without hearing it. All I'm saying is that I'm more inclined to believe the review than not, given that it theoretically makes sense, and he did point out flaws and concentrated on them (the review didn't sound particularly positive to me, to tell the truth). The flaws also make sense; the "micro-thin condom" he's hearing is probably a result of the A/D D/A going on internally and the fact that the transformer can never exactly match the original.
So it makes sense to me that this unit could make a bunch of 9/10 preamp sounds. Especially given the price.

I'm still a skeptic and I'm still skeptical of this unit, but I can find no theoretical fault with Tetness's review. I will reiterate: I don't think anyone should just go and buy the thing without hearing it first, or at least until a few dozen more reviews from respected engineers get out there first.

I've seen a lot of raving, dishonest reviews and Tetness's doesn't follow the pattern.

Thanks for shortening my link BTW; wasn't sure how to do that.

The idea is that you can use it in the stead of $40,000 worth of preamps and $40,000 worth of compressors. That's value.
Again, I'm not saying it sounds perfectly exactly the same as all that gear, but the idea is in the value of the piece.

Which has yet to be definitively proven, I know. Just saying what it COULD be.

Will it sound exactly like a Neve 1073? Of course not! Does it matter? Of course not!

Exactly...1073's don't sound alike from one to the next.

It sounding good does not justify 4000$.

Maybe not for you...but for someone who does a lot of overdubs who has been looking into a couple high-end preamps for different colors...if this thing even comes close on just a few of the preamps and comrpressors, it may well be worth more than that.

Seems like it's selling for about $3300.

Haven't heard it yet myself, but I'm definitely interested...
