Hi,
I was wondering about a good outboard reverb unit, I'm looking in the sub $500 range, and I was wondering what my options are. I mostly need it for snare drum, a little vocals and misc. I have some plugin reverbs, but I don't really like any of them. I have the dverb, Wavestrueverb and ren verb. Is there a nice Lexicon style reverb out there in a plugin ?
TIA!

can anybody explain to me the difference between the 110 and the 550. im thinking of investing in the 550, but i talked to a friend of mine who said the only difference is the number of lexichips and that is only useful when chaining fx, i just want to use it for reverb only.
thanks!

A trip to the Lexicon website would answer your questions directly. The main difference is that on the 550 you get a stronger interface and the ability to control and edit all parameters. As far as sound and reverb quality, I consider both of them in the crap reverb catagory.

If you already have a $500 budget, squeeze some more, and seek out at least a PCM70 and aim for a used PCM90.
I'm a big reverb fan. My current reverb fav's are my three Eventide's, The reverb in my E-mu sampler, TC M5000, AKG ADR 68k, & BX-5. Yamaha SPX-900, Roland R-880, Sony MUR-201, Lexicon PCM91, M300, and an often borrowed 480L.

In the range you're looking at you could get one of a couple "real" Lexicon reverbs...the MPX110 or the MPX550...that will likely sound better than any native plugin reverb. A good reverb takes a lot of juice to do, and that's one of the places where a hardware-based effect really has an advantage over a native one. You may want to look at one of the cheaper UAD or PowerCore cards as well.
You may also want to look at the Kurzweil Rumour...it's a fantastic-sounding box and it in your price range as well.
