If you are going to use the mics to record Punkish/scre(a)mo/alternative, you can do the job for much less than $1,500.00.

A few Shure SM57s and an AKG D112 will do the trick leaving plenty of money left over for good cables and stands. 57s run about $100 each and the D112 goes for around $200.

But if you were looking for a bit more variety, you might wan't to go with a couple Sennheiser MD421s (about $350 ea.) to use on the toms and maybe a EV RE20 ($400) for the kick.

Alternatively you could stick with the SM57s and get a couple good overheads. I like Shure SM81s ($350 ea.).

All of these mics are good mics and have many applications. You will be able to use them for other things and get your money's worth out of them.

Don't forget, good cables and stands cost money too. Don't blow your wad on mics and have nothing left to hook them up with.

Without question, these are your best options:

Kick: [="http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/D6"]Audix D6[/]="http://www.sweetwat…"]Audix D6[/]
Snare: [Audix D2[/]="http://www.sweetwat…"]Audix D2[/]
Toms: (x) [="http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SM58/"]Shure SM58[/]="http://www.sweetwat…"]Shure SM58[/]s (let "x" stand for as many toms as you have)
Overheads: (2) [Kel HM-1[/]="http://www.kelaudio…"]Kel HM-1[/]s
Room Mic: (see below)

You'll not find a better kick mic for screamo: the Audix D6 naturally sounds like how you'll invariably eq any other kick mic. You can't go wrong with a handful of SM58s, and you'll probably use them to record other instruments (an SM58 is identical to an SM57, but with a removable windscreen, so mic your drums and guitars with the 'screen off, and if you decide to use it for vocals, replace the 'screen).

As for the room mic (which you certainly need), another SM58 or SM57 would be fine. I'd personally get something that might be another option for your snare, such as an [="http://www.sweetwat…"]Audix i5[/]="http://www.sweetwat…"]Audix i5[/], but it's really your call.
