Both are fine IMO. I used logic for 5 years and cubase for 2. Logic is much more advanced midi sequencing and software synth wise but I don't find myself needing to use those capabilities as much. Emagic was purchased by Apple a while back so all new releases are Mac only. So if you're on a PC then cubase is probably a better route.

I believe cubase is a little quicker workflow wise but that is due to simplicity. I have seen some posts that say logic "sounds" better, but I know Logic very well and would not that it is better or worse sonically. I will say Cubase/Nuendo sounds a little more transparent to me but I don't think there is really such a difference in the real world. YMMV

and i am definetely one of those who say after several a/b tests that logic sounds better!! and is by far more powerfull then cubase...

if you want an out of the box solution... LOGIC PRO 7... don't even bother f'ing around with xpress, you will just upgrade sooner or later anyways...

i personally chose DP 4.5 cause i have my own third party software already...

also, cubase seems to have a dying community... all of their boards and support forums are gone!

I was speakin to someone before also about this, and wen I first went onto Cubase, i thought that it was not more complicated than Logic but just different to it in a couple of ways. I always thought, "Why would you want to do it like that? Logic is much easier!" But this is because I was using Logic all my life up to that point, but this guy was the exact opposite in the sense that he was using Cubase all his life, and when he tried Logic, he was like, "Why would you want to do it like that? Cubase is much easier!"

I guess there's not a lot of difference between the two eh?

huggh... the sound engines are worlds IMO more like galaxys from each other apart, cubase sounds like shit. just do an AB and you will hear. same system and play any same aiff or wave back, say from a comercial CD and listen... DP, Sequia or Pro Tools is fine, too.
most of other software sucks sonically, just my 2cents.

Steinberg forums, support for Cubase, Nuendo, Wavelab - GONE? Still seem to be there far as I know? Support for WaveLab is certainly still there - they may have moved around the web a bit(New sites?), due to the sale to Pinnacle and now to Yamaha(Which could be a very good thing - we'll see.), but they are still very much "in biz"(I correspond with the same people, whenever I need them - not often - good stuff!).

And, as to "Why no Mac?" - higher price would be the answer... with no relevent quality difference. The only reason aristes', went to Mac in the first place is they didn't have enough intelligence to deal with anything but pictures - words were beyond them. Now that Windows has long had pictures too, as well as words for the literate - PC's win - twice. If a second answer is needed, it would be flexibility. Almost everything available for PC, little for Mac... unless you have Pro Tools -- but with PT, there's that "price" thing again. 'Course, you could "stick" yourself with Mac Only Logic, but... why would you do that? If you're going that far and don't want to do PT, there is always Nuendo, Digital Performer and several other very fine options.

Cubase will likely be fine for you and your PC...

Mac Hater!?!? NO! I'd like to have one of those huge screen Mac notebooks. Sort of defeats the purpose of "notebook", but..? Cool, alright? And if I needed and could afford PT, I'd have it and on a Mac system. But most of us? A TV-special PC, some software and an interface on a PC is fine if not dandy...
