I am currently using a Sony Viao P3 700mhz machine equipped with 350MB RAM.
I have the M-Audio Delta 66 card with Omnistudio setup and the software I run is Sonar 2.0.
This desktop machine is about to crap out, and I'm considering a new LAPTOP (mobility).
And so if I go laptop, then I need to buy something like the Mbox, since the hardware I currently have is all PCI cards.
So my options are, to buy another PC laptop and the Mbox, or go Mac with an Ibook.
My first question is: how does the Mbox compare to the M-Audio Delta 66?
Would I be taking a step down or step up in hardware and sound quality?
My second question is: what would be the advantage of going to a Ibook?
I'm thinking about the 1.33mhz 12inch 1GB memory (already own a 30GB firewire hd).
With these specs, how many tracks do you think I can run? (stricly audio only/no midi)
I have been wracking my brain regarding pc vs mac and mbox vs all the other competitors.
There's so much info on the web, and very difficult to find practical information.
Please help me out!

I would stay away from the mbox and look at the mpowered stuff if you're looking into the pro tools route. I've heard way too many horror stories about mbox's. Check out duc.digidesign.com you'll find a ton of people who hate it, you'll also find info on mpowered at that forum.

M-powered with an M-audio Firewire interface on a laptop is an excellent combination. Make sure that the laptop is FAST--lots of RAM, high-speed buses and big caches everywhere, and ESPECIALLY don't get a 5400 rpm drive in it! It has to be 7200 rpm with the fastest nanosecond access time you can afford.

Get a really nice laptop (with Deep's recommendations) and the pimp setup would probably be a Firewire 1814.
It comes with Ableton software, but I'm pretty sure the M-Powered Pro Tools works with it.
Apple or PC? Who cares? Both are going to be running on Intel chips soon and the hackers will have cross platform OS's available about 5 minutes after that.

i own an mbox
but i would recommend that you get an ibook with an m-audio interface instead....
the m-audio boxes will work better latency-wise with other apps' than protools..... (on mac that is... don't give a s*** about pc's:shock: )
the mbox really is protools only...
a yeah you guessed it.... i recommend getting a mac (with max. RAM)....
your life will change to the better! 8)
