I have a quick word about application:

If you're recording other people, get a 57. You'll want to get the standard mic that everybody else uses if you're doing this to earn money. When clients come in the studio and I toss up 4-5 mics on a cab for comparison, they pick the 57 about 75% of the time. Like a 57 on a snare drum, it just sounds "right" to the average person who doesn't know much about these sorts of things.

BUT! If you're only recording yourself, you can try almost anything with no worries.

Oh, and whoever said that placement makes a huge difference with 57s (or anything) was damn dead on. Use a flashlight and double-check your work.

The Audix i5 is a dynamic. I tend to only use ribbons and dynamics on guitar cabs. Best $99 USD I've spent this year!

senn. 609 mixed with a blue ball will give you awesome tone. throw an akg c414 a few feet away for room and you got an awesome sounding setup no matter the genre.
