Which mic is better for R&B vocals? I wanna get the modern sound of R&B nowadays. So should I go for a M-audio Sputnik or AKG C414 B-XL II Condenser Microphone ? and what is a good firewire audio interface ton use? is a M-audio profire 610 a good one? thanks for the help.

I don't view modern R&B vocals as extreme or affected in any way. So I think that you either have to build up a general vocal mic cabinet if you are recording a lot of vocalists or shop for one or two particular mics if you are trying to fit one person. Good dynamics are a good place to start since they are relatively inexpensive. A 58 or 57 is a no brainer. Cheap and works in so many cases. The SM7 I'd compare with an EV RE-20 and a Sennheiser 421.
The 414 is a good versatile condenser. Some people call it too vanilla. You may not want to pay for a multipattern mic if you are just going to do studio vocals.

i can send you samples of R&B and hip-hop recordings that i did at my studio using an MXL 2001. it's an inexpensive microphone that sounds quite excellent on vocals.
MXL and Rode make some really nice sounding LDC mics on a budget. i don't dig the M-Audio stuff. their budget mics sound like shit.
57's are always a safe bet and versatile (if that's what you want). and i like the Rode NT1A as well; i've used it on reggae, rock and R&B vocal recordings.
In that price range, I would get an SM7 AND a Shure 58. Without

Without knowing anything about the quality of the voices you will be recorded, those are safe bets for getting what you are looking for. Plus, you'll have money left over for great cables.
