I'm currently doing a project on a PC in Cubase SX 2 and after tracking was done, I got the levels I wanted for each mic and then put them into buses. (ie 8 mics on drums, made a drum bus, 4 mics on guitar amp, put into a guitar bus, etc) This made it much easier to get the proper levels in the main mix as one fader controlled many channels for the same instrument.
Now that I want to mixdown, I find that I have to choose which bus that I want to send to a stereo wav. but I can't figure out how to put my drums or guitar or vocal bus into the stereo mix bus! Is there a way to insert them into the chain... or do I know have to route my individual channels through the stereo mix bus and re-do all my levels again? If so, that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard! The old version of Cubase had a Master Fader on the Master bus, but I can't seem to find the equivalent on this version. Please help! This sucks!

Yes, you're going to want to create group channels instead of buses. They will do the exact same thing that you are using buses for now, but they can be routed to the stereo output bus or any other buses you might have. After you create the group channels you need, choose that group as the output for each track you want to be in that group.

Maybe I'm backward, but I create "groups" for the drums, guitars, etc. I'm not in front of my DAW right now, but I'm sure there is an option somewhere called something like "add group" I think. I bet the buses you are routing stuff to are probably what I treat as the master bus. I think there is more than one stereo master bus for those of us that have more than one set of hardware stereo outputs. As far as I know you can create as many groups as you want, but I don't think any are there until you choose to add them.
Trust me, Cubase isn't that dumb; but you just have to learn the workflow.
