I'm thinking of building up a studio. As a assistent in a digital one(Yamaha 02r, Alesis hd24...) I learned a lot, but now I have a problem :)
I need a console(mixer) to monitor(to mix) my recordings, to track them...
now 1. option: a massive console with class a preamps, eqs...
2. option cheaper consoles with Focusrite octopre preamps for drums, Avalon m5 for microphones, cheaper dbx 376('cause of the tube)...
What to choose, 1. or 2. option and what consoles should I be looking at?
Soundcraft Ghost, Mackie 8bus, Midas venice? -> but hey, Avalon m5 costs around 1500€ and the whole Mackie costs3000€(24 preamps) -> ? I don't think that's ok
help me out, please!
regards, pinc

I would sugest a Mackie CR1604-VLZ Pro for a home studio. They have beautiful XDR preamps and I've seen them on eBay for <$500
Only prob is they are small rackmount mixers, not much of a big studio console.
For a huge console, I would suggest a Mackie 8-bus off ebay.
oh and, I'll record stuff on alesis hd24! re,pinc
