I could go on and on suggesting things but I don't know what you are doing.

Tell me what gear you have, how it's connected what you're recording and what you want to achieve... Then I will be a smartarse again but with more direction and purpose.

i'm using m audio fast track pro as an audio interface

i'm using a presonus eureka preamp

i'm using sony vegas pro 8.0

i'm using a mono mic made by akg.

i'm using windows xp sp3 fully reformatted

everything use to work fine. Im not sure but i think someone messed with my computer and now the only thing thats outawired is monitoring my vocals. i can record n edit everything fine.

My advice would be to read your softwares manual to locate how to switch your direct monitoring mute off and on and to use the shift key when appropriate.

With the M-Audio Fast Track Pro can't you just turn the mix knob?

well, i finally figured out how to monitor my recording (i can hear what i say through the mic). i had to keep the mix knob from middle - low (which is stupid because if i have the mix knob in the middle, the volume of the beat gets lowered if i want to be able to hear my self more through the headphones). anyone have an input on this? i would like to be able to turn the music in the headphone louder AND hear my self.

also, does anyone own a presonus eureka? I want to compare settings for voice record. much thanks in advance.

Instead of microphone monitor level and track monitor level, you have a microphone to track mix and a master volume. Some people prefer this setup. I have used both, and don't really prefer one over the other. It's just different.
