Anyhow, I went for it. I've been doing a lot of "mobile computing" these days and I need the synths in the laptop rather than in some rack.

I've also been watching NI. I'm running OS9 and am using DP3 and Kontakt. I refuse to put OMS anything on my computer ever again. I recently had to rebuild my system - at the time DP4 wasn't out and Kontakt wasn't OSX ready. I won't be rebuilding my computer again until I have to but at that time I'll go to OSX and get Absynth and other such niceties. Still, I'm jealous that you got that package! I'm sure you'll love it. :)

Yeah, I'm normally not swayed by stuff like this, however...I _am_ still running OS9 _and_ a Win98 machine. Plus, the same day this came out, I picked up a project that will require a lot of synth stuff while I'm in "mobile" mode so it just made sense.
I considered the upgrade cost but one would have to pay that anyhow if you buy _any_ software. No, its not insignificant and, on the flip side, you don't always have to upgrade. I'm kinda a "when it works, don't fool with it" guy.
Anyhow, I know two of my buddies also picked up the bundle. One of them mentioned a similar deal from 1k (you get T-racks, Amplitube and SampleTank for $800).

It might. I can't really be sure at this point. I had so many issues at the time. I was just using OMS via Free Midi and not the emulator. At this point, I have an ultra streamlined, clean system that is working perfectly and being technically challenged :) I don't want to rock the boat. I want to create a thousand pieces of music before I change anything. I may check that out in the future though. Thanks for reminding me about that.

I just wish their OS X implementations were farther along.
OS X: It's like buying a killer new 900hp road rocket only to find out the correct tires, brakes and fuel won't be available until "late 2003" or some other, similarly vague date-guess.
It would be a brain-sprain to try and calculate the future value of the current 65% NI savings after being eroded by the upgrade fees to come when the OS X versions pop up on the 12th of Maybe (not to mention factoring out the DJ crap and anything else I might not need).
For me, for now, this offer goes in the same file as the infamous Mackie/UA UAD1 dsp card, under the heading,
"Promises, promises."
