never used acid pro 5, but look for some setting to change that will allow you to hear what your recording as you record.

The problem you are probably having is due to the default nature of numerous different programs dictating how the Microsoft mixer handles your monitoring and record sounds?

If you go to start, programs, accessories, entertainment and then volume control, it will bring up the playback monitor volume control. Now, you can select what input source you want to monitor. You can also go up to options, select properties, it is there you will find the different volume controls you can select.

If you go to the "recording" button, click that on, you'll discover the numerous different input sources you can choose from for recording.

Now the wonderful thing here is the ability to have your record mixer open and then go and open the playback/monitor mixer again, as a second instance. This will now give you both record and monitor mixers on your screen, on your desktop, simultaneously!

If your sound card came with its own onscreen mixer, you may find that the Microsoft mixer parallels its function to your sound card's resident mixer program? If you have both mixers open you may very well see a corresponding fader move of the fader you're moving and in the other fader applet? All around pretty cool!

This is way off topic, but when I saw the title of this thread, I was laughing my butt off because the first thing I though of was the Dave Chappelle skit "Turn my headphones up". Those of you who've seen it will know what I"m talking about. FUNNY AS HELL. I wish I could find a clip of it. Anyway, sorry for going off track.
