Im alittle torn between two preamps right now, which are the dbx 386 and the Aphex 207d. both of these are tube, which doesnt matter if they are tube or solid state,
the idea is to get the best out of my PreSonus fire interface by adding two additional mic preamps via S/PDIF and also considering using the preamp as a front end for vocals. The pres on the interface are decent however i thought paying over $400.00 for a pre, the quality better be better than the ones on my interface. and also having the capabiltity of the unit having instrument inputs. if I'm recording a band passing a bass through ones of those preamps would be a good idea being tube.
if you guys have any other suggestions on other preamp that i should look at, let me know, i dont mind spending tad bit more.
give me your opinion on these two preamps though.
