Hey all,
I'm very new to this so this may sound stupid. At the moment I have a Tascam 2488 MKII, It good for recording my drums and guitar, but when it comes to editing and mastering i find that the interface is not very good.
I was wondering, at the back there is a USB2.0 slot could i get a software package for my PC (Cubase most likely) and connect the Tascam desk into my PC via USB and use that as the interface instead of using the desk?

1) Cubase LE isn't sold as a separate product. It is provided as a 'free' package when you buy many interfaces, etc. You'd have to look at some of the other Cubase products.
2) The USB on the 2488 looks like it can only transfer files which have been recorded. You could record on teh 2488 and then transfer the file to the PC for mixing, etc. But, you can't use the 2488 as an interface to record live tracks on the PC.

Sorry... I assumed you answered your own question by listing the USB2.0 port out of your TASCAM 2488 MKII.
My comment refers to mixing, and it is easier in Cubase than the TASCAM 2488, IMHO.
Transfering as wav file to your computer, then importing to Cubase as a wav file is how it'd work...
Cubase SE1 is $100 at Musucian's Friend...
Cheers!

I think you'll find the PC (Cubase or any other recording/mixing software) much easier to mix with. I think it's easier (USUALLY!!!) all the way around than stand-alone systems. YMMV.
Cubase LE is about $100. That's a good place to start. Post your results here for the rest of us to hear. :)
