Interesting to see labels beginning to re-release albums in Super-Audio CD hybrid format, although only advertising it as CD (not to put people off getting it I suppose). I'm talking about Rolling Stones.
Do you think this will turn the tide on 'too loud' CDs? There are no dedicated workstations (as yet) for working at the sampling rate this medium is capable of, and because of this, I hear that mastering for Super Audio is being done the traditional way - using analog processing ONLY. Analogue gear won't give up the fight yet, eh? :cool: *move goalposts HERE*

Loudness has nothing to do with the format.
An ineteresting thing about SACD. Sony was in such a hurry to bully the format thru, as they were not invited to be in the DVD-A discussions. The late great mastering engineer Denny Percell from Georgetown Masters, Nashville proved that the math process in SACD is in error. There are funky artifacts on the top end as well, do to the filtering.
There ARE workstations that allow mastering and one does multitracking in DSD for SACD. Merging Technologies Pyramix and Mykerinos operate up to 394kHz. The converters required are DCS and Genex. Tascam and Sony came out with the DSD mastering version of the DA series of MDM's.

SACD and DVD-A both show promising futures...except..they both may be dinosaurs soon.
Blue Laser technology with 23 gigs per compact disc could provide for a universal format be it Hig Rez PCM or DSD.
The future for formats.......
I think more improvement can be done in the DSD arena in mastering. I simply have many SACD's that are not "master quality"..hence, the vinyl and even some of the redbooks are better.
