Where will the music industry be in 20 years, 30 years, 50 years?
Before I tell you my thoughts on the matter, you should know that you're reading the opinion of an enthusiastic optimist: one of the few living souls in the music industry who still believes that the music industry is not dying…it's just coming alive.

Very insightful! Well worth the read. I have to agree with her optimism. The industry is going through metamorphosis, not death. Because art IS valuable, there will be eventual equilibrium in the market. No one knows exactly what that will look like, but I believe it will be even better than the former state of the industry.

Whether or not her music appeals to me, I've got to hand it to her. I've always heard that she has never been just an observer in her career and management, they say she's actively involved in every aspect of the creative and business sides of writing, production, stage design - everything. Good for her.
The article might be a little rosy. I can't wait to read the article, or hear the song, she writes after the music business treats her like one of her ex-boyfriends.

Good points.
I pay closer attention to her because my oldest followers her a lot. I have a buddy that also mixed some of her work so its even more interesting to me. I wish he would give me one of her tracks to work on lol!
I'm told, she sells more "CD's" than most people today. Claimed its because she exudes/radiates value from the sound to the message.

Let's not forget that she's also got a great band. Her guitar player, Paul Sidoti, is from Cleveland... and he's a bad-ass multi-instrument player... I heard him play many times long before he hooked up with her, when he was just another gigging cat on the Northeast Ohio nightclub circuit. He was always highly respected in this area as a serious and dedicated musician.
I must admit that I get a little tired of the "teen-queen diary" thing that she seems to always focus on as her song content, but then again, I'm a 50 something male, so her songs aren't targetted at me anyway...but as to her talent, there's no doubt she's got plenty of it.
She's also handled herself with grace, humility and maturity in this shark infested business. She doesn't need to strip down and ride a wrecking ball while showing her nasty tongue to the world in order to sell records... she lets her talent do that for her.
And the way that she handled the whole Kanye West debacle at the MTV Music Awards was very classy, and served to make West appear exactly as what he is: a moronic, arrogant, narcissistic ass-hat - without her saying so much as a word. ;)

Isn't that nice... she thinks people should be paid for their art. She's right. After you're dead, you get paid. Just ask Elvis and Michael Jackson. Or Vincent van Gogh? Or Michelangelo? You suppose he had a nice goldleaf Maserati chariot? Or just a horse? At least Leonard Bernstein wrote a movie soundtrack LOL.
I'm heading west which will be quite a story on the side.
