Okay also, if this is not possible, I'm wondering if it would be possible to link the 8 channel to my interface (tascam fw1884) and run it through logic. I know logic is a little less strict on things than PT. OR... if I could link the fw1884 into the digi and run it through his PT? Just spit balling. We've got a large drum session coming up first week of January and need all the input we can get. If worst comes to worst, we'll be running his 8 channel digi, and my fw1884, seperate computers, and have a huge editing mess on our hands when all is said and done. But hey, gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

You need either the Digi 003 or your FW1884 to work in standalone mode. Then send the output of the preamps through the ADAT into whichever device is attached to the computer.

I'm not sure if either of these will do the job. Usually if you can propagate multiple devices the literature brags about it.

Unfortunately, he can't use more than one Digidesign interface with Pro Tools.

Can the 1884 be used as a stand alone ADAT converter? It's been awhile since I've used one, so I'm unsure. If you can, you can use the pres on the 1884 and use the ADAT out into the ADAT in of the 003.

[edit] Quickly looking through the 1884's manual, it doesn't appear you can use it as a stand alone converter. If you can get your hands on an A/D converter in ADAT form, you'd be golden. Heck, he has two 003 units. Does he need both? Sell/trade one for an ADAT converter.

Yes, you can do that.

Create an Aggregate device editor from the audio menu in the AMS(audio midi setup) utility on Mac OSX.

You'll want to run OSX10.5.8 on Logic 9, or go with 10.4.11 on Logic 8.

I believe you will run into a 12 input track limit with Logic express.

fourone3: yeah I've been looking too, can't find anything either. And yeah, I think I've persuaded him that there's simply no use for the 4 channel anymore. He's gonna sell it and hopefully (fingers crossed) put it towards a Rosetta. He's also been thinking about getting some kind of firepod type of thing, I dunno why, I guess he read those work well for linking. But if I can link my fw1884 than screw the firepod.

And to jammster: I'm running 8 pro on 10.4.11. lucky me? haha all this time I've complaining about not upgrading. Okay so I'm not going to have the chance to see his unit for a few days, so I want to ask... do I add the aggregate without the digi connected? And if not, do I connect the digi first directly to my computer, OR do I run it through the FW1884? Also should I run the device through logic prior to this so it recognizes it? Or would that be bad?

Hey. I'm new to this forum. I actualy asked digidesign if there was a way to use two 002 simultaneously and there is none.
the only way to get more than the 8 I/O is to use the adat port and use a device tha connects through adat. I use a RME and it works fine (except that the digi 002 doesn't work well with the RME clock, a shame).
all this through PT, I have no idea how logic reacts to these configurations.
