I tested three clocks for a friend and some people could not hear a difference. I was wondering if you guys can hear the difference in different clocks, if infact there is any audible difference.
The clocks were:
lucid gen-x6
lucid ad9624 internal clock
m-audio delta 1010 internal clock.
I recorded a part of the demo of my roland jv1010 into the lucidad9624 into logic audio.
the mp3 is here: 4.9 megs.

the 21 megabyte wav file is here:
to save the wav, right click on the next link and save target as (remove the mp3 at the end of it)

If nobody can pick out the genx6 then I will have to consider selling the genx-6 and buying a tube mic since it means that the difference or improvement is negligible.

I listened to the mp3's(on crappy computer speakers), and it may be just me, but, soundwise
I liked 3,1,2. As far as picking them in order, I will go with lucid as #1, 1010 as #2, and Gen-x6 as #3. I am just starting to listen to more and more converters, clocked by external sources. What I have found is that there is a sense of cohesiveness(tighter) to the AD's & DA's, when tracking multiple sources and playing them back.
As far as this stereo file goes, it seems less apparent.
I will have to download the WAV's and take a listen through the nearfields. Whatever you decide, the Gen-x6 is cheap enough to reap the benefits. Your mic choice will be much more
critical.

To me, the 2nd and 3rd one sound pretty similar, and the 1st one sounds more different. The tone of the guitar patch isn't quite the same.
I've never used the Midiman or the GenX6, but my guesses are 1 = Midiman, 2 = GenX6, 3 = Lucid w/no clock.
But then again, I'm on a Soundblaster. :) I hope you post which ones are what...
Thanks,
Dave

I am glad that you guys can hear a difference. Some of my other friends cant hear a difference.
When I clock playback with the genx6, the difference is even more evident. I decided I am keeping the genx6.
Jetoney, did you get my PM.
Any more takers?

Hi CyanJaguar,
A while ago I tested out an Aardsync II and a Nanosyncs. There was an extremely marked improvement in audio quality having my studio running from a dedicated masterclock. However, try as I might, I couldn't tell any difference in audio quality between the two clocks.
