Waves makes excellent plugins. The Platnium contains the Gold Bundle plus the Masters Bundle. Many of the items in the Gold bundle are somewhat redundant, and others might not be used often. The Masters Bundle is really incredible.

Have you actualy heard the Voxengo stuff???
Because I have. And well, Behringer comes to mind. The EQ's are so brittle and leave the audio sounding harsh. Waves however are so sweet, and simply are the most used plugins in the "pro" world.
So sure Voxengo stuff is cheaper, but it sure as heck sounds it to.

Love your work though.

Huh?!

Waves are sweet? The L2 has been completely overtaken by loads of freeware. The L2 sounds almost (but not quite) just like clipping. And you think Voxengo Elephant sounds cheap in comparison?????

And you think Voxengo EQ sounds brittle??? Perhaps you're talking about the long deleted MarvelEQ? Have you tried CurveEQ (I use that on every master)? Or GlissEQ?

Waves certainly are the most used plugs in the pro-scene. Not because they're the best. Because (1) many pro's still use Macs and they don't have much choice & (2) many pro's don't have a clue what's happening on the cutting edge.

Waves were state of the art a few years ago. That's why I bought them. But not only are they overpriced (or is that a clever marketing strategy? They're the most expensive - they must be the best!), they just don't cut it for me in the slightest.

And just to clear things up: yes, I think Behringer is crap! (haha)

Cheers, TheCaptain.

I am also underwhelmed by much of Wave's offerings, especially at the price. They are quiet a bit like protools - overpriced and underpowered. However, for the Rennaisance Compressor, all is forgiven. The mastering plugins are nice too, though I don't have them myself.

Stay far, far away from the 'creative' fx by Waves. They are, to a plugin, worthless, and completley horrible. I was forced to try and do 'sound design' at a former job, using nothing but them on a Digi Toolbox. It >sucked<, and so did the project. They remind me of Warren Beaty's character in 'Bullworth' when he tries to rap.

Try the pspaudio stuff. It's top notch.

I'm sorry you really have no idea what your talking about. In the pro TDM world (what most mac users are using, a PT mix or HD system) we have plenty of high quality EQ's ,compressors, effects ext..... most of which are TDM only. Many users have no idea because they are using LE plugs, which the selection is still great but not as large as TDM. Also many semi-pros have no experience and think what they have are great and get all exicited when they hear the words punchy warm and tubes. Back to the topic the waves bundles, they are great bread and butter tools but i do agree they are overpriced, you get alot of plugs but some you aren't going to use alot. If I was going to buy things solely on whats needed now, I would get the Rennisaince bundle and the Transform bundle, MCDSP analog channnel and filterbank, Waves ID1 reverb, and the UAD compressor bundle. That being said the only thing you need is a delay plug and you'll be fine.

Sonalksis Eq and voxengo glissEq sound a lot better than waves plugs.. when i first used waves i used the q8 or q10 a lot, then i went to the renEq's and heard a major difference... these days i use these main Eq's
Voxengo GlissEQ (i don't like curve eq anymore really)
Sonalksis sv512 eq
Timeworks eq1LP(awesome)
PSP masterQ

those are the main eq's i use now.

i still use waves deesser, rverb and some other plugs.. but i mainly use waves for effects. Rcomp is always a great compressor, but i don't rvox at all anymore.. i always felt as if it bad a over compressed distorted sound.. i don't have that problem these days, using wave arts trackplug or something like it...
one plugin i thought i'd never use that worked out very well on a session last week... T-racks vst plugins. i used it on some vocals, and they came out just as clean as Trackplug but they sounded like they had more presence

I can totaly understand that they are pricey, and that your normal, everyday home studio user might not be able to afford them, but why not just admit that?

wvaes are good plugins but these days there are better plugs. there are plenty of plugs out there that offer a better sound than the waves and do so at a fraction of the cost...
waves ir-1 reverb for one.. its cool.. the presets on the cd's sound good.. but would i rather dump that kinda cash out or use voxengo with plenty of impules that are out there...

i own the diamond bundle i think they call it.. i bought it off ebay for 700. wvaes plugs got a long way, but i can trully say there are better plugs out there that use the same amount of less cpu power and sound better than waves.
i got a free plug yesterday and tested it on some vox, and as much as i don't wanna say it.. it blew rcomp away...
waves needs to step up their games b/c these days free plugs put out equal or better quality
