Shane, you can also get a $250 PCI card from the M-Audio (Delta, midiman) folks that has a TDIF interface port on it for dumping 8 tracks simultaneously between your PC and DA-38/78/88/x8.

I was really gung-ho to getting myself a DSP2000 C-Port for my home studio until last night when I stumbled across and listened to some examples of work done with an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 and it just absolutely blew my socks off.

Until very recently, Aardvark had an extremely mega-bad reputation because they couldn't seem to produce software drivers that would make their units work right on a Windows PC, but about a week ago they finally released the long awaited WDM drivers for W2K/XP and everybody that was on the verge of going postal towards Aardvark is suddenly exclaiming that the new, long-awaited drivers are working fantastically and singing glorious praises about them.

The Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 has four mic preamp balanced inputs, 6 outputs, midi, and extremely good on-paper specs. It's $499 at most online vendors, a hundred more than the DSP2000 C-Port.

If anybody else here can offer some insight into the Direct Pro 24/96 and its bigger brother the Q10 please do so. After hearing the 24/96 I think I'm gonna go nutso if I don't get one soon. I would've liked to have 8 analog ins and outs, like in the Q10, but after choking on my credit card bill from purchasing all my new ANUS parts, financial reality has set in and I can't afford the extra $$$.

Well, I had a Q10 here for a week or so, and it ran fine under Windows 98. I got impatient waiting for the W2K drivers, and my needs changed, so I sent it back- the 'B' computer is on the shelf for a while, and the 'A' computer is going to be a 16 I/O RME setup.

The Q10 is really ugly, too. However, it sounds fantastic, as did the Aark 20/20 I had a couple of years ago. I wouldn't have any qualms about recommending them, given that the new drivers are supposed to be solid.

Excuse me Opus if you were referring to my question. I am trying to find a comparison between the Delta 1010 and DSP2000. I have been over alot of threads on this site but have not seen one that had compared the two in any detail. As a matter of fact, there is not much info on the DSP2000 here at all. Also, If you read my question, I was also asking about a sound card with TDIF connections for my Tascam. Is that a question that has also been covered greatly here on these boards?? Not that I saw. I feel like I had a couple of good questions and if you dont feel like answering them then dont, but there is no reason to suggest that I shouldnt ask. I respect yours and other peoples opinions here and that is the only reason I asked. If anyone can help answer my question I would appreciate it. Nick do you know the model number of the M-audio card with TDIF connections? I have looked but cant seen to find it? Does in intergrate with the 1010 or seperate? Thanks.....

Shane...my apologies..I think I over reacted a little bit there but was being sarcastic as well! Sarcasm runs deep within my veins(but damn Knightfly is the true sarcastic devil)..
Anyways, from what I'm seeing...I like WinXP Pro. Unfortunately you lose some programs or stable drivers. So, the safe bet for now is Windows 2000 Pro. I'm redoing my system tonight for Win2k since I'm used to WinXP right now and we'll see how I fare from there on the OS differences. I'll let you know tho.

Hardware, well, the MOTU is pricey but it's got some great features to it. Personally, I think Midi should be a seperate entity from the audio box. Get yourself a USB 2x2 if that's all you need. The 2408 has three banks of optical and tdif, 8 analaog in and outs, spdif in and out as well as word clock in and out. On the PCI card itself is a 9 pin sync cable for Adat or 9 pin synch devices...this way anybody wants to transfer say 16-24 tracks into your computer you can!
