Hey, I've been using the same drum overhead mics for every project I do myself or for others the past 5 years, and I think it's time to change it up. It's not that I dislike the sound I just don't want to have the same overhead sound, ya know. I have been using the AKG c430's matched pair for those five years and now I am looking for another sound. I don't know if I should get LD condensor or a SD. I have been eyeing the AKG 451's and the Stapes-Audio mic's both SD mics, Mabey even a matched set of the new AKG 414's. I even checked out the T.H.E. mics too.
there are too many mics to freakin chose from these days...
my buget is $1000-1500 and it will be used on an Akai DPS24 mic preamp, just to let you know

Do yourself a favor and search the archives. There has been many postings and opinions of overhead mics. The AKG 451/452/C414, TLM103, AT4050 and SM81 have all worked very well for me.
