my vocals sound nice an clear but i still find them a little thin. i use a akg c3000 mic and a focusrite pre amp.

You have just perfectly described the AKG C3000 mic. It is one of those mics that really needs the right preamp to help counter it's weakness. You don't say which Focusrite you are you using, but if it is not Red or Blue in color, all the others don't do that mic a real service.

I would suggest that you get to used to using heaphones when doing vocals so that you can more clearly hear and understand the tone of your own voice as well as how to interact as you sing into the mic to control things like dynamics, mouth noise, breathing and many other nuances of singing.

I have to concur with AG. The 3000B is way low on my list of favorite vocal mics. Oddly enough, though, 2000B is not half bad. It's half the price and a more useful mic. The good news is, the 3000B will make you sing better, 'cause it is one unforgiving mic.-Richie
