Oo, I feel for you. I'm having problem with 64bit on my all my machines. Its hit and miss. I have no idea if this will help, but I've noticed importing into a new 64bit session works better than opening something and letting the software do it all for you. Something about the engine having to convert a 32bit session in 64 does weird things, so getting as much done before it has to deal with plug-ins has helped me. But I've completely given up on 64bit until everyone has had more time getting it all lined up. Nothing worse than building a session on it and then finding something goes sideways and the only solution is to revert back, but then not enough memory so you are SOL .
From what I gather to date, Sonar seems to be the system with their act together more than others right now. But that doesn't help any of us.

Well it helps me but...... The first thing I would do is start a support ticket with Native Instruments. I love Guitar Rig and I've never felt the need to upgrade from 4 to 5. I'm glad I haven't in this case. Starting a support ticket is good for your friend and for everyone else who decides to upgrade. Hopefully the will have a quick fix together soon. You might try building your own presets or, check to make sure that you are not loading presets from GR4. See if you can download some presets from their site specifically for GR5 and check for issues.

Thanks huesph...I have suggested he start a support ticket which I think he will do this week.
He's narrowed the problem down to just "new" GR5 presets that have this new "Container" module in the rack setup.
Something new in GR5, so I think maybe if he gets on the phone with NI they may be able to figure it out.
I don't hear good things about NI in that regard so not putting much faith in their side of things.
You're pretty much on your own after you've bought it.
I just feel badly for him and of course frustrated when we are playing together and his tracks get ruined. It just gets him all mad and angry and spoils what should be fun times.
I hate trying to play and track and then have some stupid "unrelated" computer or software glitch that gets in the way of making music and having fun...it just spoils the whole thing.

I've told him to stop using presets so I will see if I can get him to try tweaking the presets a bit and saving them....that might avoid these problems.
This all gives me more reasons why software stuff like this is a huge waste of time and money...novelty junk to me!
Me personally (and I don't play guitar) I would just toss anything NI and get some real guitar effects.

PS It looks like NI has a new 5.1 update release so I will have him try that too.

The only thing I think is valid is the DAW being used strictly as a tape recorder.
To me that is the biggest advancement in recording I see going on!
I find these "plugins" to be a complete waste of my time and peoples money.

With that in mind, what would be a good OTB guitar effects setup that could be used to record directly into the DAW without latency or glitches or plugins?

I'm sure there are tons of suggestions but I would like to have some ideas for my friend and some ammo for an inevitable argument with him...LOL

I'd go for the Boss Stomp boxes. That's all he needs. Plug in and you are sailing. No latency and software BS.

I've always wanted one of these. This would be everything he needs.

That would probably get him off this software plugin thing for sure.
Might make his computer and Cubase happier too if it wasn't trying to process all that plugin software
I think he has an old Digi RP2 or something like that, but he doesn't like the sound of it.
I'll see if he's fed up enough to go back to a nice multi-effect stomp box.

Some of the Boss demo videos certainly sound beautiful.
Plug in your guitar, run the stereo lines into your interface and go!
"Sounds" good to me.
To tell you the truth that NI Guitar Rig stuff never sounded that great to me!

There's things I like about software emulation and there's things I like about hardware. I'm partial to the Vox Tonelab sereies. If you can find one of the old Tonelab SE they are awesome. I'm not a fan of the Digitech pedals either. Fizzy distortion. I had a pandora that was great except for some noise issues. The Tonelab was by far the best sounding unit I've ever owned as far as emulation hardware. Pods are nice but overrated. Still nothing is quite as nice as a real amp.
