I'm shopping for an EQ with vibe. Can I get something that is close to everything? Tight bottom end, rich mids and silky highs or should I be investing in EQ's that are designed for a specific range? What is the best for mids?

My budget is between 3K and 5K and if I get used, it gives me a good chunk to buy something pretty sweet. I would like this to be useful for other sonic tasks like vocals and acoustic instruments but primarily for my 2-bus. I need something surgical as well but I've been resorting to my ITB eqs up till now. I have no idea where to start. Been ITB too long and want something that will enhance my analog rig.

I've been looking at Millennia, Great River and DW Fearn. What do you suggest?

Cheers!

Is that all?!?

I'll doubt you'll find something that fits all your requirements in one box and/or in your price range. There are many great EQ's out there that have some great sound but not everything, so you'll have to narrow down your search a little bit to the things that matter most.

You might look for a two-box solution, like a DM Bax with a Thermonic Pullet (with a matching mic pre).

Massive Mastering, post: 384279 wrote: Any of those. I'm still a big fan of the Ibis and Lordy knows I can't get enough of the BAX at this point... Sontec, Millennia with the Forssell board is high on the list. Tried the GR mastering version -- It was a little limited by (I can't even remember - A 3-way Q control?), but it was a very nice sounding unit...

Hey John, I can get a used Millennia with a damaged faceplate for 2400 here and was thinking of adding the Forssell board. Does that mod remove the tube section?

The GR MAQ-2NV is a great sounding EQ. Superb tight and focused bottom. Midrange is VERY nice to me (ala NEVE 1083). Not very versatile due to the 3 wide "Q" choices but a very great EQ, dead silent and reliable! All switches (elma's), & stereo linkable.

I have tried for a month the IBIS and I also liked it (sound). I like a lot of EQ's actually but can't get them all and they all have their strengths and weaknesses (subjectively).
