Use mic's own phantom power or pre's?

I'm using an AKG Solidtube microphone which comes with it's own phantom power supply.

My pre also has phantom power available which I can turn on or off. Should I continue to use the AKG's own supply unit (figuring that it's likely better calibrated to the mic) or am I just introducing another layer of unecessary hardware into the chain?

Actually, I just remembered that the mic also has a special cord that runs from the mic to the phantom power supply .... so I can't bypass it.

I'm guessing that all mics that come with their own phantom supplies use a specialized cord.

If the mic has a box that supplies the power, it needs that power. Tubes use different power scheme than simple phantom power.
