Hey guys, another ignorant sumbitch here. I was wondering about the different sockets for mobo's. I've heard to stay with the 939 but I can't/don't want to dish out the money for a 3500+ amd processor which is the minimum for this socket, right? Are people still building daws with the 754? and do they stay away from SATA with this socket?
any info would be much appreciated,
thanks

Socket 754 will make for a fine DAW. 939 supports dual channel RAM which is a plus but the 754's perform quite well without it. If you do end up going for the 939 be warned that advice has been given in this forum to avoid the NF4 chipset which supports PCI express and stick with Mobo's that have the NF3 chipset (AGP) as PCI express has been reported to not work well with systems for audio. SATA works fine with 754 also. My gaming rig is a socket 754 and it's smokin so I don't think you'll have any problems using it for a DAW.

Good luck with your build.
