To the AHD24 users out there. What do you use to monitor when tracking a live event? It would be nice to have a rack mounted line mixer with solo buttons, but I don't know of anything like that out there. Any suggestions?

I don't quite understand what you mean by "tracking a live event". Tracking (recording some tracks while replaying others) is a studio operation. Live events are multi-track recording only, unless the performers are playing along to pre-recorded effects tracks, in which case, those should be coming from a device other than the HD24.

For rack-mounted line mixers with solo buttons, people like API, Speck and Mackie do them, but I think rack-mounting a conventional mixer is often a better bet.

Bob, I have an HD 24XR in a portable rack case with a Roland M240-24 Channel line level mixer, without equalization, that monitors the output of the recorder. It has dual stereo buses so that you can use the second stereo bus as a solo monitor bus. It also has 4 sends 1 is switchable between pre and post. It's pretty cool and makes on location 24 channel monitoring and rough mix a breeze.

Hey Remy!

I have the HD24 as well. Sorry to hijack this thread, but I wanted to get some more info on this. You helped me out awhile back getting this thing setup. I've recorded a few shows, but the recording has been sort of rough due to the fact that I had no idea what was 'really' going into the HD24.

Currently, I have about 8 inputs going into it direct from two Presonus pres and the remaining tracks coming in from our live board, a Yamaha 01v via the optical channels.

My major issue is that if I adjust gains on my Presonus out-board pres, it not only affects the live mix, it affects the recorded mix too. I'm honestly not sure what gets sent out via the opticals...I'm assuming the same thing, post gain, pre-eq. Not sure though.

Is there a way to do a rough mix in real-time without effecting the live mix? He mentioned the line level mixer, what exactly could that do for me?
