Im having problems with the onyx firewire and cubase. . after installing everything when i hear playback it glitches and i hear little pops and then i squeals. .i tried adjusted the latency settings but it doesnt work...someone told me it was a digital clock problem but i even tried changing the sample frequency. the audio doesnt work in audio or traction correctly. does anyone know what the problem may be? The computer also freezes when audio is played back this is after the series of loud screams?

Is it the firewire card itself?

The processor i have is an athlon X2 which is faster than a XP, the onyx firewire requires an XP. Could this be the problem even though an X2 is faster than an xp? Im trying everything.

In one hand you have Cubase running at say 48 KHz. In the other hand you have the ONIX console running at the same 48 KHz. If the digital signal clocks are not tied together, one as Master and one as Slave, those clicks that you hear are called jitter. I don´t know if the firewire interface provides a accurate clock signal from or to the onyx.

Maybe you have another onboard audio card with it´s own clock and cubase is locked to that clock instead of the incoming signal from the onyx.

Try to set everithing to one digital signal so it can be considered the master clock. I have different sound processors, and 1 mixer, and every digital device that i have conected listens to the clock supplied by the mixer via S/PDIF, so if i change frecuency in the mixer settings, everything changes automatically.

Service pack

I had same problem and I reinstalled windows XP with Service Pack 2 and everything seems to be working fine. XP Service pack 3 install was giving the problem. So find an XP Home SP2 edition and try that. I struggled for 2 weeks and bought a new firewire card as well and that didn't help either until I loaded SP2. Also note that Mackie recommend Adaptec firewire cards (HP make one with and it works fine in my machine). Adaptec firewire cards have the Texas Instrument (TI) chipset.
