I don't think you can do "real time monitoring" with CEP. I may be wrong, but I remember reading about it . Check out the CEPAdobe Audition sites:

My friend is running Cool Edit Pro through his soundblaster and he gets real time monitoring. Of course, he is using the soundblaster for sound in and sound out.

This is frustrating.

You most definitely can monitor in real time with CEP, however, like you said above, I only know how to do it with a single sound card. In the settings though, you can define primary and secondary sound cards...maybe if you search around in there, you'll figure it out. Out of curiosity though, why are you using a second soundcard for playback?

Like stated above, check out the audiomasters forum. You're bound to find some good info in there about CEP.

Monitoring of your record inputs is not supported in CEP/AA. Getting it with a soundblaster card is a function of the sound card, not the host application. You're simply feeding the line in to the speaker outs, and also recording the line in.

See the Windows Mixer app for your sound card to see if you can get monitoring to work there - or if you are running things through an outboard mixer, monitor there. That's what I do.

Thanks for your help guys. Perhaps I'm looking at this the wrong way. I currently don't have any monitors so I listen to everything through my headphones. I guess it would make more sense to use the audiophile as the audio out as well. The thing is, the audiophile has two balanced analog outs so I'm not sure how to get both those analog outs hooked up to my headphones.

I'm sure this is a dumb question but given the output choices of the audiophile 192, what outputs would you use for headphones?

What do you have going into the 192? If you want to drive headphones from the 192, I'd either use a mixer or a headphone amp.

I have a Behringer Eurorack UBB02 mixer. Mics and guitars go into that and then I have a left and right analog out going from the mixer into the sound card. I guess I could use the stereo return back to the mixer and then plug my headphones right into the mixer?

You got it. You can use the mixer to monitor while recording - either through the mixer or with the monitoring capabilities of the sound card.
