While I don't have a DBX 266 limiter/compressor, I do own a DBX 296 spectral enhancer. The "Wall wart" supplied with this unit actually indicates DBX AC-1. This particular wall wart outputs 19 volts AC at 350 mA (milli amps) NOT A DC UNIT, like many others, so don't even think about trying to get one that outputs DC. My 296 requires 18 volts AC and I imagine likewise for your 266?? I don't believe Radio Shaft have any AC wall warts? I would recommend checking your local music store. Since it only requires a 117 volts AC input with a 19 volts secondary, you may be able to find such a transformer at Radio Shaft but it will be a raw transformer and you will have to put it in a utility box template with input and output cabling along with the associated power connector to go into your DBX, which are available from Radio Shaft or you can just cut the old one off, connecting it to the new cable. You do not have to worry about polarity if you're 266 requires an AC input as there is no polarity for that.

your cheapest/easiest/safest bet is probably to just buy the oem replacement

Ah yes, AC/DC IS a great band.

The 266XL, however, has an internal power supply. The transformer he is referring to is in fact in the signal path if I recall correctly. (I sold mine about 5 years ago - a fact which I regret. Not that the 266XL is an amazing compressor, but it is VERY useful in MANY situations)

An OEM should be easy to purchase and relatively inexpensive at that. If you're looking for a more robust replacement, perhaps a detailed photo would help.
