Hi!
I am new here as writer, but spent really too much time reading lots of posts!
I would like to get some critics about the small sample of my last recording. It is from the Beethoven cello variations on Judas Maccabäus.

(past the ads and entering the code on the upper right, you can download it)
The recording was from a live concert in a quite empty hall ! The traps I used helped to clean the sound a little but didn't solve everything, unfortunately.
The piano is a Bösendorfer Grand but obviously not very well tuned.
The cello was placed in fron of the piano, on the med. line, in a typical concert situation.
Absolutely no reverb or compression were used, but a little EQ around 100Hz (+2, q=1.2) and 8500Hz(-1.5, q=1)
I recorded this with only a pair of cards in NOS, looking to the cellist head, placed about one meter away of the cello and two meters high, on the same mid. line.
All comments are welcome!
Regards,
Vincent Micotti

I could see the name of your recording but couldn't see how to download it, perhaps because of all of the ads and other junk on the page.
I'd be interested in hearing your recording though I might not be able to offer any sage advice.
Have you ever tried http://www.speedyshare.com/?
It's much less cluttered.

Its a very nice recording indeed. The cello sounds slightly left of centre to me, and the piano a little subdued, but for a single cardioid pair its a fine effort and there is a nice richness to the tonal colour of the cello.
Was the piano on full stick? Overall the sound is a very tiny bit boxy, perhaps from the room, a little EQ might fix this. Remove a tiny bit of 800Hz broad Q.
I like it a lot. Well done. Those M147's are really sweet!

On this link you can have another version, where I used the Algorithmix blue (finally some good plug-in) as: [124Hz +2.3 Q1] [790Hz -1.9 Q0.79] [3.71kHz -2.3 Q0.75]
Unfortunately I still try to get away this boxy sound but it comes from the stupid hall I recorded, obviously.

You really have trained ears! it was half opened. Unfortunately because I recorded during a final exam, and Mr Cello Prof. wanted to have it so.
Thanks for your help!
Vincent
