Hey everyone. i really need help with a short question here. My girlfriend is ready to get a laptop and she has a dell 4600 2.80ghz with 512mb of ram (i would obviously have to increase and this thing is pretty nice and shes ready to give it to me for recording only there is 4 usbs and NOOOOO firewires. Is there anything i can buy that i can hook up to this Dell 4600 and add firewires in anyway so i can use this for recording. Thanks for your time everyone. -Ron

you would need to purchase a PCMCIA firewire card. Search the forums for whatever software you are using and see what people recommend that works well.
The poster asked about the Dell 4600, which is a desktop. As I read it, she gets the laptop and he gets to use the desktop for recording, but maybe the poster can clarify this.

You would be correct, maybe I should get some glasses :)
The Dell 4600 should have 2 free PCI slots, and there are loads
The Dell 4600 should have 2 free PCI slots, and there are loads of third-party PCI bus Firewire interfaces to choose from. Once you have one of those, you could plug in a Presonus Firepod or an RME FireFace 400 or 800 for your recording.
