Hi,
I'm just taking my first steps into the world of recording and am about to buy some monitors. Could you all give me some advice?
At the moment I'm thinking about a pair of KRK RP6 Rokit G2. The best price I've seen is £315 for the pair with some free T-Acoustic foam pads to sit them on (Do these do anything?). I'd like to know what you all think of these monitors. Any good? Any competitors I should look at?
£315 is close to the top of my budget for these, so similar or cheaper suggestions would be welcome :-)
I'm chiefly a guitarist and will be recording/mixing rock music with these. Think Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains. So nothing dramatically downtuned or sub-bassy.
My setup is pretty basic right now: Imac with Logic. I have no audio interface yet (that's a whole other topic!), so right now I'm plugging a guitar into a clean-boost pedal as preamp prior to the IMac's mic-in. Monitoring is through the built in IMac speakers, so I am hoping for a big improvement with separate monitors!
Thanks,
Steve
PS. This is my first post, so be gentle!

I've not liked the Fostex speakers I have had, Yamaha MSP5s are great for the price. There are a new set of Adams about, the A5s I think, which are getting great reviews and on my list to get for our mobile/B studio setup. The Rokits will be fine for you, many people rate them highly. You could get the Adams or the Yamahas for the same price so if you can try them, do.

Hey, as someone above mentioned, the KRK rokit r5 to 8 or the M-audio studiophile 8 or 5 aren't bad for your first monitors. However, I found that with 5 or 6" basss drivers, I was missing too much of what was going on and could not mix properly. My advice is to go for the 8" bass driver unless you have a matching subwoofer.
